Featured Project
Spartina
Built by the California-based Stephens Brothers in 1954, Spartina is a 45' motor cruiser. In 2022, she was brought to Rhode Island by her current owners for a stem to stern re-fit. Hagen Custom Woodworking designed, fabricated, and installed a new galley, passage doors, and chart storage, as well as vanities and wall-hung cabinets for the heads.

Looking forward in Spartina's galley, two new passage doors lead to the forward cabin and head. The sapele cabinets feature book-matched veneer and carefully selected grain.
Vintage blue pulls and mosaic tile backsplash hand-made by the owners add an artistic flare and showcase their personal style.

A forward view: fiddles follow the curve of the corners; wine storage;
and a glimpse of the range surround

A new sapele corner post supports the partition between the range and forward head. In the forward head, a curved vanity and wall unit. Above the range, sliding doors hide pantry items, and a personalized cutting board adds an extra work surface.

In the forward cabin, a passage door and multi-purpose cabinet. The cabinet's lower portion hides the a/c, the upper drawers add much needed storage, and the space between provides a little shelf space.

The solution to 3 doors that open into the same narrow passage? Turn one of them into a pocket door.
This door tucks into some borrowed closet space and pulls shut for privacy in the owner's cabin.

Spartina's cockpit table is Burmese teak laminated on plywood. A custom mechanism moves the table fore and aft, while adjustable pedestals change the height, allowing the table transition from dining to coffee table.
